Easily recognized for the white skull on the chest of his dark costume, The Punisher comic books evolved from the fans' interest in a super hero who "crossed the line" in behavior, and who had no alter ego, nor super powers. The Punisher was essentially the first of a genre of super heroes, ones with psychological problems that often complicated or impeded their performance.
