FOR YOUNG AVENGERS COMIC BOOKS
In 2005, Marvel Comics launched Marvel Next, a
new group of series placing young heroes in their Marvel Universe.
This enabled them to make use of more established figures than
those in the Young Avengers comics, one of their debut
stories.
In an unusual move, Marvel Comics declined to
reveal the premise of the Young Avengers comics, and rumors
flew thick and furious that the Young Avengers was simply a
knockoff of DC Comics' Teen Titans.
The four members of the new series, each bears
a resemblance in physical traits and characteristics, to existing
characters. The Young Avengers include Iron Lad (similar to
Iron Man), whose main weapon is a metal suit that reacts to
his thoughts; Wiccan (a melding of Thor and the Scarlet Witch),
whose talents lie in spell casting; Patriot (Captain America),
who is the grandson of the first black super-hero; and the Hulkling
(Hulk), who is able to change shape, and possesses super strength
and healing abilities.
The year is 3016 in the alternate universe known
as Other Earth, and robotics student Nathaniel Richards meets
his future self, who gives him a suit of armor that responds
to his thoughts and gives him a glimpse of what lies ahead.
The founder of the Young Avengers is so horrified that he travels
back in time to seek the help of the Avengers in destroying
Kang, who is what he will become one day. But the Avengers have
disbanded, so Iron Lad recovers a CPU unit from Vision the Android,
which has information pointing to where future super-powered
heroes were located.
Gathering three others to his cause, the Young
Avengers band together to face not only evil influences, but
some ticked off parents and the original Avengers who want to
send them home to study.
