Liverpool 2 – Manchester City 0

Mohamed Salah scored and assisted as Liverpool beat Manchester City 2-0 at home to extend their lead to nine points in Sunday’s Premier League clash.

Liverpool had a chance to score first in the fourth minute. When Cody Gakpo swung to find space with his right foot and Stefan Ortega narrowly missed the post. But the linesman raised his flag for Luis Diaz being offside and interfering with the goal.UFABET 

Three minutes later, the Reds finished with another shot. Ryan Gravenberch feeding Dominik Szoboszlai who ran in and swung a right-footed shot in the box that Stefan Ortega had to make a save.

Liverpool almost took the lead in the 11th minute. When Dominik Szoboszlai crossed from the right for Virgil van Dijk to head home, but it hit the post. 

Less than a minute later, Liverpool took a 1-0 lead.

When Mohamed Salah got the ball on the right before crossing into the penalty area. And reaching the far post where Cody Gakpo ran in and flicked the ball into the net.

In the 19th minute, Liverpool continued to press on and managed to finish with two consecutive moves. Both a header from Van Dijk that went just wide of the post and another from Gakpo, who shot with his right foot in the penalty area over the bar. 

Man City’s game started to improve but they still couldn’t find the finishing touch. Liverpool had another chance in the 33rd minute. When Trent Alexander-Arnold picked up a rebound just outside the penalty area and fired a right-footed shot just inches wide of the post.

Man City had their first shot in the 39th minute when Erling Haaland passed to Rico Lewis who took a shot from inside the box. But the ball missed the post and went wide. The first half ended with this score.

In the second half, in the 51st minute, Liverpool almost scored again. Andy Robertson sent a long ball up front to Cody Gakpo who shot in the penalty area. But Matheus Nunes followed up to block it behind. And from the corner kick, Van Dijk headed it again, but it went over the bar.

The Reds missed another unfortunate goal after Bernardo Silva’s poor pass was intercepted by Mohamed Salah. Who broke into the penalty area with Sobaislai and Salah choosing to shoot himself. But the ball went over the bar.

69′ Liverpool had another chance when Cody Gakpo’s shot was passed by Andy Robertson but Ortega saved it.

City had more possession in the second half but were denied a penalty after Ruben Dias’ reckless play, with Kyle Walker slow to allow Luis Diaz to intercept the ball before Orteta was fouled in the area and Salah made no mistake by firing home a shot that hit the post on 78 minutes.

City were forced to make changes, with Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish coming on for Phil Foden and Rico Lewis minutes later. And De Bruyne almost equalised in the 83rd minute after Van Dijk’s mistake. But the City playmaker’s shot was well cleared by Caoimhin Kelleher. 

There were no more goals in the remaining time. So the game ended with Liverpool winning 2-0 over Man City at home, leaving them 9 points ahead of their opponents.
